Surf to Salt race – Hayle Cornwal

Surf to SaltLast Wednesday night was the annual Surf to Salt board race in Hayle, Cornwall. This event is a race between a mixture of surf lifesaving and SUP racers with some of the best paddlers in the UK.
From the start I had a battle to be the first out to the marker buoy about 800 meters out from the beach start. The prone paddlers had a very quick start but having a solid start myself I was clear by the time I turned the marker.
After turning back up the estuary we had a few small bumps to chase and I managed to get into a good rhythm. At the half waypoint I was still well clear of the other SUP racers and prone paddlers and worked hard to extend my lead through to the finish winning by 200m.
The Surf to Salt is a great event and it’s great to see more and more people doing it each year
