Mount Llesur was Conquered, and Victory is Once Again Mine – Animal Newquay Open

Posted on November 26, 2010 - Filed Under Future Fins | By

Job done folks, the last event on the UK pro surf tour and I took down the victory. With 3 key events cancelled this year on the tour, the title race was tight. Unfortunately I missed 3 events on top of that, 1 of those being a 2 star event because I was competing in the 6 star Sri Lankan event. However this last event of the year was packed with all the big names in UK surfing along with so international names that wanted a piece of that pie. Guys like Russell Winter, Alan Stokes back from the WQS, Micah Lester back from injury, Sam Lamiroy, The Ash brothers, Igor back from injury, Gordon Fontaine the Frenchman that is here to study but surfs dam well and loads more.

The event started and finished on the Sunday, the surf was about 2-3 foot glassy then onshore then glassy, rainy and cold. But none the less it was a good day. I surfed 4 heats on Sunday and the last heat of the day was the final. I started the heat with a high 7 and then was in 3rd for most the heat until about 7 minutes to go I scored a back up ride of a 5 and went into 1st and that’s how it stayed for the rest of the heat. STOKED!

Luke Gartside got a great shot of my winning wave:

Off to sunny SA for a photo/film shoot and a bit of a holiday with the family now.

Peace
