JC 5’10” SD-3 TL2 Review

Posted on August 25, 2009 - Filed Under Shortboarding, Surftech Boards | By

One thing I have to say is that when I first got my 5’10” JC SD-3 I was a bit nervous about the size, as I could not make my mind up between the 6’0” and the 5’10”. In the end I took the 5’10” and hands down it is one of the best boards I have ever surfed. As I am new on the Surftech team this is the first TL2 I have had.

I have surfed the JC from 2ft grovel to 6ft perfect hollow reefs here at home in Bundoran, Ireland. It holds really well in the solid stuff and you can really drive off the bottom and wack off the top with out a problem, it feels alive and is super fast and light. The great thing about this board is that it surfs just as well in tiny surf as it does in more powerful surf, in my opinion this is a very versatile board and I cant wait to take it to Costa Rica for the Billabong World Champs.

At the moment I am using the V2 FAM1 Black Stix and they go sick. With the future fin setup you have so much drive and there are so my different template’s you can chose from.

The thing that I find amazing about the TL2`s is that I still do not have a ding on my board two months on which make me feel more secure in the water as I know my equipment will not let me down in demanding conditions.

Me at Costa Rica.

    Ronan,
what are your specs? I’m 5’6″ and 130 lbs and i’m trying to decide on the 5’10” or the 6’0″. I’m also just switching my style from longboard to shortboard. What do you think i should get?

    thanks,
    sean

Hey Sean, I am 5,9 and weight 70kg, I would recommend the 6,0 for you just because of the extra volume as you have just made a transition from a longboard.
This is a great board have fun.

hey i bought the 5’10” SD-3 and im 135 lbs and 5’6″ it works great by far the best board i have ever surfed. I live on Oahu and surf rockies and south shore tons and the SD-3 has never let me down if you where to choose between the 5’10” and the 6’0″ id go for the 5’10” 100% its lighter faster and stronger and can handle any wave.
