Team Riders: Matt RockholdXanadu... mention the name to a surfer and the image of the quintessential and meticulous craftsmen immediately comes to mind. A professional world-traveled surfer and surfboard designer who has devoted his life to consistently creating the most progressive surfboard designs in the industry.A shaper since the age of 15, Xanadu opened his first surfboard factory at 17 years of age in 1977. In 1983 he closed his factory and spend the next four years surfing all over the world and shaping in Australia, Japan, Hawaii, and California. He gathered both surfing and shaping knowledge the best possible way – by living it. Xanadu returned to California in 1987 and shaped for a local manufacturer until permanently establishing his own label, Xanadu Surf Designs in 1989, as well as his reputation as a top shaper. Xanadu attributes much of his success to timing… “Instead of making a name for myself at an earlier age, I waited for the right time. I spent years traveling and learning about waves and people of various cultures around the world so that when it came time to establish my own label, I would have a more balanced approach from an artistic, business, and personal standpoint. In 1991, after riding my boards for one full year, Brad Gerlach jumped 12 places to finish the Association of Surfing Professional tour ranked 2nd in the world!” Surftech is stoked to include Xanadu in it’s growing list of world-class shapers. ![]() 5'10" TL2 X-20
